If you’re in Lisbon and searching for a halal restaurant, Zubir Churrasqueira is a spot worth visiting. Located at Rua do Zaire 40B, it’s well-known for its delicious halal chicken and other grilled dishes that reflect the flavours of Portugal.

A Closer Look at the Menu

Zubir Churrasqueira specialises in grilled meats, with their halal grilled chicken being a highlight. Each bite of their grilled chicken showcases a perfect balance of spices and a smoky finish. While our team wanted to try their popular chicken skewers, they were sold out during our visit—a testament to their popularity. Instead, we opted for the turkey skewers, which were tender, flavourful, and perfectly cooked.

What Makes Zubir Churrasqueira Stand Out?

The restaurant’s atmosphere is simple yet welcoming, with a focus on efficient service and friendly staff. Whether dining in or ordering takeout, the experience is designed to be hassle-free. Zubir Churrasqueira’s halal certification ensures peace of mind for those seeking halal options in Lisbon.

The affordability of their dishes also makes it a great choice for travellers and locals alike. The combination of quick service, quality grilled meats, and reasonable prices creates an experience that’s hard to beat.

Why Visit Zubir Churrasqueira?

When looking for a halal restaurant in Lisbon, Zubir Churrasqueira offers authentic grilled dishes prepared with care. Their grilled chicken is a must-try, and the turkey skewers are a fantastic alternative when other options are unavailable. The restaurant’s location in Lisbon makes it easily accessible for anyone exploring the city.

If you’re in Lisbon and want to enjoy halal food that blends traditional Portuguese grilling techniques with halal-friendly practices, Zubir Churrasqueira is an excellent choice.

Sines was once a fishing town and is now a tourist destination that everyone will enjoy. Get to know this seaside haven better.

It merges with the sea, relying on it for survival. Sines has a deep connection with the Atlantic Ocean, evident in both its gastronomy and the economic activities that sustain the city. Today, Sines is an important industrial oil port, playing a vital role in the country’s economy.

Sines is located on the southwest coast of Portugal, in the district of Setúbal, at the tip of Cabo de Sines. Its position divides the Alentejo coast into two parts: to the north, there are vast beaches of fine sand stretching to Troia; to the south, you’ll find cove beaches, part of the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park.

The region is also famous for being the birthplace of the navigator Vasco da Gama, a knight of the Order of Christ who made history by discovering the sea route to India in the late 15th century. This voyage profoundly connected Europe with the East, fostering collaboration and trade. It was so significant that King Manuel I named Vasco da Gama Admiral of the Seas of India.

In addition to this rich history, which brought Sines global recognition, there are countless nooks and crannies to explore. You’ll appreciate all that the city offers its visitors.

Must-see places in Sines

If you enjoy walking, we recommend wandering the streets of the city at a leisurely pace, without haste or expectations. This is the best way to feel like a true “Siniense,” a true resident of Sines.

However, be sure to include some of the most intriguing spots on your route.

Sines Castle

This is no ordinary castle. Built in 1480 to protect the area, it remains the best viewpoint over the bay, hundreds of years later.

Here, you can also find a connection to Vasco da Gama, as the most famous mayor of Sines was Estêvão da Gama, father of the navigator. It is believed that Vasco da Gama was born within these very walls, a figure whose legacy shaped the history of Portugal and the world.

Fort of Revelim

As threats to Portuguese territory increased, coastal fortifications were built, including the Fort of Revelim, or Fort of Nossa Senhora das Salas, dating back to the 17th century. Its purpose was to protect the shoreline from privateers and pirates.

Beaches

Sines is renowned for its many breathtaking beaches, where you’ll feel like you’re in paradise. Fine sands, calm and crystalline waters invite you to swim and relax in peace. Some of the most well-known beaches in the region, and indeed in the country, are Praia Vasco da Gama, Praia de S. Torpes, and the secluded beaches of Porto Covo.

Historic Centre of Sines

The historic centre of Sines stretches along the cliff that connects the castle to the Fort of Revelim, offering superb views of the Atlantic. Walking this path allows you to discover the shopping streets around the old medieval thoroughfares, such as Cândido dos Reis and Teófilo Braga streets, as well as Largo dos Penedos, where fishermen would assess the sea conditions. You can also visit Vasco da Gama Street, where the house in which the navigator lived is located, although it is not open to visitors.

Since 2005, the Sines Arts Centre has been located in the historic centre, bridging the city’s historical past with its modern-day identity. This remarkable contemporary Portuguese architectural building has won several international awards and is now the main cultural hub for arts and education in Sines.

Sea Experiences

Of course, the city’s close relationship with the sea brings many leisure activities. In addition to its economic importance, the sea offers numerous opportunities for surfing, windsurfing, bodyboarding, fishing, diving, boating, and kayaking, to name a few.

São Torpes is a true paradise for surfers, providing excellent conditions for the sport. Surf schools operate there year-round. Recreational fishing is also popular in Sines, and divers, whether amateur or experienced, have a variety of locations to explore.

Gastronomy

Among the many reasons to visit Sines, the quality of its food stands out. The city is full of excellent restaurants, many with prime locations overlooking the ocean.

The cuisine in Sines is mainly based on fish and seafood, reflecting the region’s fishing heritage. You can sample dishes such as seafood “açorda,” shellfish “feijoada,” “migas” with fried fish, seafood rice, cuttlefish, whelk or roe salads.

For those with a sweet tooth, don’t miss the “Vasquinhos,” small regional almond-based cakes named after Vasco da Gama, or the “Areias de Sines,” simple but exquisite dry biscuits.

Some Notes

Halal Food: Sines is a coastal town known for its seafood, which can be a great option for Muslim visitors, as seafood is generally considered halal. However, if you’re looking for halal-certified restaurants or meat, these may not be as readily available in smaller towns like Sines. It would be useful to research or contact restaurants in advance to inquire about their menu. Alternatively, you could consider self-catering,

Prayer Facilities: There are no major mosques in Sines itself, but nearby cities like Setúbal or Lisbon have mosques and Islamic centres. If you’re planning a longer stay, you might need to make personal arrangements for prayer. Portable prayer mats and a Qibla app on your phone could be helpful.

Modest Beaches: While Sines has beautiful beaches, Portuguese beach culture tends to be quite liberal. It might be worth visiting less crowded or more secluded beaches, like those around Porto Covo, to ensure privacy. Visiting outside of peak tourist season can also offer a more relaxed and private experience.

Portugal is a beautiful country with a lot to offer Muslim travellers. From its rich history and culture to its delicious food and stunning beaches, there’s something for everyone. But when is the best time to go?

The answer depends on what you’re looking for in your vacation. If you want to avoid the crowds and enjoy milder weather, then spring and fall shoulder seasons are a good option. However, if you want to experience the best of what Portugal offers, the summer months are a great choice.

Here’s a more detailed look at the best time of year to go to Portugal for Muslim travellers:

Spring (March-May)

The spring time in Portugal is a beautiful time to visit. The weather is starting to warm up, but it’s not too hot yet. The flowers are in bloom, and the days are long and sunny. This is a great time to explore the country’s many historical sites, such as the Jerónimos Monastery in Lisbon and the Sintra National Palace. You can also enjoy some of Portugal’s delicious springtime dishes, such as cataplana (a seafood stew) and arroz de marisco (a rice dish with seafood).

Fall (September-November)

The fall is another great time to visit Portugal. The weather is still warm and sunny, but the crowds have started to thin out. This is a great time to go hiking or biking in the countryside or to visit one of Portugal’s many wine regions. You can also enjoy some of Portugal’s delicious fall time dishes, such as castanhas assadas (roast chestnuts) and bolo de chocolate (chocolate cake).

Summer (June-August)

The summer is the most popular time to visit Portugal and for good reason. The weather is hot and sunny, and there are plenty of things to do. You can go swimming in the ocean, sunbathing on the beach, or exploring the country’s many cities and towns. There are also a number of festivals and events that take place in Portugal during the summer, such as the Festa dos Santos Populares in Lisbon and the Fête de la Saint-Jean in Porto.

However, it’s important to note that the summer is also the most crowded time to visit Portugal. If you’re looking for a more relaxed vacation, then you might want to consider visiting during the shoulder seasons.

Winter (December-February)

The winter in Portugal is mild, with average temperatures ranging from 50°F to 60°F. This is a great time to visit if you’re looking for a winter escape without the snow. You can still enjoy many of the same activities that you would in the summer, such as hiking, biking, and sightseeing. And, of course, you can still enjoy Portugal’s delicious food.

When to Avoid Portugal

There are a few times of the year when you might want to avoid Portugal. The first is during the Holy Week period, which falls in the spring. This is a popular time for pilgrimages, so expect crowds and higher prices. The second is during the August bank holiday, which is a national holiday in Portugal. This is another popular time for travel, so expect crowds and higher prices.

Overall, the best time of year to go to Portugal for Muslim travellers depends on your personal preferences. If you want to avoid the crowds and enjoy milder weather, then spring and fall shoulder seasons are a good option. However, if you want to experience the best of what Portugal has to offer, then the summer months are a great choice.

Lisbon, like all other European capitals, is an extremely popular spot for shopping. Although Lisbon is a small city, it offers a variety of shopping options. In fact, even if you do not like shopping, it is very likely to find yourself buying a couple of items after seeing the cheap prices, whether you are a shopping addict or not, you will.

Amoreiras Shopping Centre

Opened almost 30 years ago, Amoreiras Shopping Centre is a landmark in Lisbon life and is located in one of the city’s most iconic buildings, a symbol of post-modern architecture that has won various awards, despite the shock and controversy it generated upon completion. With around 245 shops, the mall features prestigious international and Portuguese labels. Besides the extensive range of fashion for men and women, there is also an excellent selection of kids’ shops, jewellers, perfume shops, computer shops, and an area dedicated to food with various Portuguese, Italian, Japanese, fast food, and other offerings.

Because of its small size and great location, it’s one of the favourite shopping centres for anyone who lives in the centre of town and ideal for a good shopping trip. Address: Av. Eng. Duarte Pacheco, 1070-103 Lisbon, Portugal Opening Hours: 10 am – 11 pm daily Website: https://amoreiras.com/en/

Centro Vаѕсо dа Gаmа

With water flowing over the glass roof, this is the most attractive Lisbon mall. It’s especially popular on weekends when families go to the Oceanarium and other attractions nearby, while teens are the majority whenever there’s a concert at Altice Arena. The multiplex cinema is another attraction, as is the huge Continente hypermarket.

Other popular stores include FNAC for books and music, and a large Zara for men’s and women’s fashions. In total, there are over 150 shops plus a food court, as well as a pleasant deck on the upper floor overlooking the waterfront. Address: Av. Inaugurated in 1998, this small shopping mall with 78 shops is found in a building looking out to Praça Duque de Saldanha. Most of the building is taken over by office space, leaving the bottom floors for the shops. On the lower level is the food court, always packed at lunchtime on weekdays. Armazéns do Chiado

Discover the Armazéns do Chiado, a shopping gallery right in the centre of Lisbon that is a reference for shopping in the city, full of shops for all tastes. Armazéns do Chiado is located in an old building in Lisbon, right in the centre, and maybe that’s why it is quite small compared to the modern buildings of other malls. It has small floors and the latter is dedicated to restaurants and cafes. Altogether, there are 54 stores, of the most varied articles: clothes, accessories, perfumeries, sports, etc. Among the main stores, Sun Planet, Calzedonia, Sephora, Foreva, Imaginarium, and Springfield stand out.

In addition to the mall itself, as it is a very central place, there are several events taking place there. Follow their Facebook page and stay on top of all events. Address: R. do Carmo, 1200-094 Lisbon, Portugal Opening Hours: 9:00 am–12:00 am daily Website: http://www.armazensdochiado.com/home

Embaixada in Príncipe Real

Shopping inside the XIX-century new-Arabian Palace (Ribeiro da Cunha) is not a bad idea, especially when the experience can lead you from clothing and accessories to home decor and an art gallery. Most of the products sold here are locally crafted in Portugal, so if you are looking for something special, you might not want to miss this 23-store mall in Príncipe Real. Sit back and relax with a cup of coffee overlooking the botanical gardens in the back at Le Jardin, grab a bite at Atalho Real under an umbrella, or pick up a hand-painted tile backsplash at Artes & Etc.

See what locally produced outdoor gear you didn’t know you needed at Urze, look at some fine art at Art’Embassy, or, you know, just walk around in a palace and take a photo on the stairs. Address: Praça do Príncipe Real 26, 1250-184 Lisbon, Portugal Opening Hours: Monday to Saturday: 12–8 pm Sunday: 12–7 pm Website: https://www.embaixadalx.pt/

Cascais Shopping

Cascais is a former fishing village turned cosmopolitan suburb and popular tourist destination that attracts both Portuguese and foreigners! Get your ‘shopping’ on and delve into its local delights. Cascais is so much more than a beach-based holiday destination; just a short train ride takes you to the centre of vibrant Lisbon, or to the north is Sintra with its whimsical palaces and cooling hills. In Cascais town centre, in an area called Alcabideche, there are lots of shops, including Nike Women, Lacoste, Zara, Massimo Dutti, Area, and Zara Home, to name just a few. Pet shops, phone shops, key cutters, a pharmacy, etc.

The supermarket here is Continente. Very centrally located in Cascais next to the bus station, it is small and does not have a very large selection of shops. You will find a Pingo Doce supermarket here, which has extremely competitive prices but it does not carry a great variety of products. Address: Estrada Nacional 9, 2645-543 Alcabideche, Portugal Opening Hours: 10 am–11 pm Website: https://www.cascaishopping.pt/en/home/

Oeiras Parque

Oeiras Parque is situated in one of the most dynamic and competitive municipalities of Portugal, Oeiras, near Lisbon, Estoril, and Cascais. Oeiras ranks second in terms of per capita income, and the municipality houses some of the most important business parks in the country, gathering large national and international companies. This shopping has 159 stores, a number of high-quality brands and restaurant concepts, meeting the needs of different visitors: corporate and family. There are also several Oeiras Parque stores that offer discount coupons, gifts, and even have musical moments.

On the weekends, there are special workshops and exhibitions. The youngest has not been forgotten, as there are also spaces with “colouring books, popcorn offerings, facial paintings, and balloon modelling.” Address: Oeiras Parque Shopping, Av. António Bernardo de Macedo Oeiras 2770-219 Opening Hours: 10 am–11 pm Website: https://www.oeirasparque.com/

Areas for shopping

Baixa Chiado

From Metro Station: Baixa – Chiado, some major streets to wander up and down are Avenida da Liberdade (literally translates to: Liberty Avenue), Rua Garrett, and Rua do Carmo. Chiado offers commercial worldwide brands, including Zara, Nespresso, Apple, etc. If you love a good mall, then Armazéns do Chiado has tons of beauty and fashion stores along with food courts on the top floor. But what’s the fun of browsing through products that you can find back home?

Our personal favourite street is Rua Garrett. For more local Portuguese items in Chiado, check out cigars at Casa Havaneza, and Casa Pereira for tea, coffee, and sweets, grab a cup of coffee at the famous A Brasileira café, Fábrica Sant’Anna for azulejos (Portuguese blue and white ceramics), Joalharia do Carmo for local jewellery, Livraria Bertrand for Guinness World Record’s the oldest bookstore in the world, Paris em Lisboa for home and decor with beautiful linens, Pastelaria Alcoa for baked sweets used to be made by nuns, Santinni for some homemade ice cream, and Vista Alegre Atlantis for porcelain and ceramics. Address: 1200-443 Lisbon, Portugal

Avenida da Liberdade

Beautiful Avenida da Liberdade (Liberty Avenue) is located between Restauradores Square and Marquis of Pombal Square. The Avenue was built between 1879 and 1882. Avenida da Liberdade is home to some of the most fashionable luxury brands: Louis Vuitton, Prada, Gucci, D&G, Hugo Boss, Cartier, Emporio Armani, Tod’s, Burberry, COS, Michael Kors, Rolex, Lacoste, among other haute couture names.

For those with thinner wallets, you can still enjoy some high street brands like Gant, Mango, Timberland, and Massimo Dutti. So besides sightseeing and tasting the best food that Portugal has to offer, shopping stands out as one of the top things to do. Close to Avenida da Liberdade, using the metro, you will find the Colombo shopping centre, a temple to shopping with interior gardens, one of the largest shopping centres in Europe, with a 120,000 m² surface and 400 shops. Designer stores are not for most budgets, but window shopping does not cost a thing. Walk along the Avenue’s cobblestone streets and sneak a peek at the latest fashion trends from the windows of designer stores like Prada, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, and Burberry.

Not only is this a good way for fashionistas to enjoy the city, but window shopping will help tourists get out and socialize while seeing more of Lisbon without spending a penny. Address: Av. da Liberdade 1250-096 Lisbon, Portugal

LX Factory

A post-industrial stage set with a Brooklyn-esque vibe sums up this achingly hip gastro-shopping hub on the grounds of one of Lisbon’s most prosperous textile factories. The machinery and threads are long gone, replaced by artist studios, homegrown boutiques, street art by Lisbon native Bordalo II, and a slew of trendy eateries.

You can ethically shop for Portuguese cork accessories at Rutz, get a trim at old-timey salon The Barber Factory, or savour fresh ice cream at Chef Nino. Call in at labyrinthian Ler Devagar, a retired printing press turned temple to literature that has beautiful floor-to-ceiling bookshelves. Address: R. Rodrigues de Faria 103, 130 1300-501 Lisbon, Portugal Website: LX Factory
